Japan, Saudi Arabia qualify for World Cup finals

SYDNEY : Japan beat Australia 2-0 on Thursday to qualify for World Cup finals for the seventh successive edition, with their victory at Sydney's Olympic Stadium also taking Saudi Arabia through.

Australia will now advance to a play-off against the third-placed team from the other Asian qualifying group for the right to face the fifth-ranked team from South America for another spot in Qatar.

France to monitor Qatar airspace during FIFA World Cup 2022

As part of a defense agreement between the two countries, France will help Qatar secure its airspace during the 2022 World Cup. The Emirate is set to host the international men's football championship between November 21 and December 18, 2022.   The French armed forces will provide the host nation with an “Advise and Assist”, sending both personnel and material to the Qatari territory, according to a report from the French Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee.   “With the exception of isolated terrorist acts, which are by nature very difficult to detect, the threats identified concern the cyber field [...] and intrusion of aircraft or drones in the airspace of Qatar,” reported French lawmaker Didier Quentin.  Along with advisors, a BASSALT anti-drone system will also be deployed. Poland will refuse to play Russia in World Cup 2022 play-off

Poland will not play their World Cup play-off against Russia next month because of the invasion of Ukraine, the president of Poland’s Football Association, Cezary Kulesza, said on Saturday, a decision backed up by the team’s players, including their star forward,   Robert Lewandowski . Kulesza said the association was in talks with its Swedish and Czech counterparts regarding the matches.
